Finally Arrived!!!!!!

Monday June 25th
At like 5:45 am your time I finally got to Germany. My flights were crazy. The first flight I was in a middle seat and man it is just so uncomfortable to try to sleep. So I just listened to a lot of music and started reading the Kite Runner. Then in North Carolina, Katie, Anneka, and I (the two girls I traveled with that are both form Sac State) hung out behind a check in podium at the gates so we could charge our phones. That airport is crazy and there are rocking chairs all over the airport! It was definitely weird. Then on the long freaking flight to Frankfurt I actually sat in the wrong seat haha. I had to idea for some reason I thought I had the aisle seat, but at the very end of the flight I figured out I was supposed to be in the middle seat but the British guy that sat next to me didn’t say anything to me. He just let me sit there. On that flight we got dinner... which I had pasta pesto (except I swear there was no pesto on the pasta it was like butter, broccoli, and cheese) and just have been drinking a lot of water. I also watched Chronicle, 21 Jump Street, and part of Alvin and the Chipmunks Chipwrecked. I slept a lot on that plane too, but it was still squished and uncomfortable the whole time. The British guy next to me was so talkative and nice, he was talking about the girl he met in Alabama and he’s come to the US three times this year now and he has four kids. He was also talking about how safe I’ll be and how clean it is in Germany. I didn’t read much or even listen to music on that plane. I also had this bomb apple cinnamon muffin top (yes they serve you just the top of a muffin) for breakfast and more and more water. Then we had to go through customs and back through security in Frankfurt (which btw is HUGE it’s like 5 times bigger than like the great mall!) and things are really different, but everyone still speaks English. So this airport was crazy, we got on this crazy crowded bus that took us like I swear in circles around the entire airport and we were sooo close to planes taking off it was scary. And then we boarded the plane the way celebs do. And it was a tiny tiny little plane. Only two seats on each side. It was only a thirty minute flight and they gave us some hazelnut powerbar/ candy bar thing.
So now you’re up to date on my last two days. It’s definitely been weird. We have been waiting for like two more girls and then we will drive out to our base. Today we might be able to go grocery shopping, I will find out where I am living, I will get a phone, and hopefully I will get some time to work out and connect to the internet (cuz that is right next to the gym).
I am really excited but also still really nervous. I just can’t wait to see what everything is like and find out how my day to day life will go.
So now I got to my site. And it’s pretty cool. We live kind of like dorm style but the rooms are bigger and we have a big fridge, an old microwave, and a small bathroom. My roommates name is Miranda and she’s really cool. She’s working in the CDC and she is from Oregon. I definitely know that we will be good friends. I unpacked everything and I have been doing pretty well so far.
We also went grocery shopping and it was totally weird. We kind of all huddled together and had no idea what to buy or what we were really doing. This time around I bought the basics… apples, bananas, bread, pb… typical stuff I would eat just because I was feeling weird. But I know as the weeks go on I am going to start buying this fruit and stuff that I have never seen before and our Point of Contact didn’t even know how to explain what it was to us.
also i will be working with day camp i was actually placed in teen camp but i switched with this other girl and now im working with the kids!
I  might have to start work at 5:30 AM!!!!! but we get to go on all these cool field trips and stuff. ill tell you more about it as i go through orientation this week!!!!

  3. Yay you made it home safe and sound! Ahh weird fruits how strange. Of course you would get peanut butter - but lets face it I probably would too. I'm surprise you didn't find goldfish :)
