I should have known today was
going to be a long, hard day when I went back to bed instead of going to the
gym this morning. I woke up and did not feel good at all and when I looked in
the mirror I said “no wonder everyone asks me if I’m feeling ok and if I am
tired! I look terrible!” I decided that going back to bed for two hours before I
had to go to work (since it’s field trip day so I do not have split shift) was
a better idea than sticking to my workout plan today. Let me tell you, those
two hours made a world of difference! Time also went by so slowly because after
I heard my roommate get up and leave this morning I thought I must have over slept
and my alarm didn’t go off so I jumped out of bed and realized only ten minutes
had gone by! It felt so good to sleep a little more even though I had already
gotten a ton of sleep by going to bed at 9 pm last night.
So today for the field trip we
went to Wurzburg to take a tour of the residents palace (the building I took a
picture of on our random trip there with the fountain out front) and see a
botanical garden. I sweet talked my way into have a combination of 3rd,
4th, and 5th grade boys and gave them a speech that this
was their once shot with me and with the staff member they are normally with. They
were pretty good on the way their but then they slowly started slipping. The inside
of the palace was amazing! We weren’t allowed to take pictures so I can’t show
you what it was like. But basically each room you walked through got more and
more extravagant with real gold trimmings, paintings, a room that was entirely
mirrors, and stucco decorations everywhere. I can understand why their behavior
started slipping though… it was hot, there was nowhere to sit, and honestly
this stuff is boring at their age. I loved it though and I am so happy I basically
got a free tour of this place. Then it
was my bad that my group and Anneke’s group didn’t get a chance to go buy ice
cream or candy or spend their Euro on whatever they wanted so I told them that
if there wasn’t a place at the gardens I would make it up to them by buying
them ice cream the next day from the store but only if they were good. So they
were already rowdy and then the gardens just killed them. It was hot outside
and then the green hosues were even hotter, there was still no sitting, and
once again learning about plants is not what young kids really like doing. So I
felt really bad but I had to break the bad news to them that they weren’t
getting ice cream because of how bad they were at the gardens and the walk to
the bus and on the bus. But on the plus side I loved the gardens! It was cool
to see all these new plants and plants that I just have never seen. I saw a
banana plant with an actual blooming flower and baby bananas on it! I then also
got to try a cocoa bean! It was hilarious seeing the kids try it because they
thought it was like the chocolate they buy at the store! I had to explain this
does not have tons of sugar and milk in it and they were all trying to spit the
cocoa out, but I actually liked it!
We only did those two things but
seriously it was the longest day ever and EVERYONE was like falling asleep on
the bus. So it was nice to have it quiet for about 30 minutes. After work I was
able to get a good ab workout and a run in. On my run I got quite some funny
comments. Some people doing community service noticed I’ve been running every day
and they said “so you’re just running everyday now aren’t you?! You know you’re
too skinny right?” I then had an older man say “work it!” and one girl told me
it was such motivation to see me run and good for me for running. Haha it was
kind of nice to hear those kind of compliments because I felt like a big fat
kid trying to wobble around after eating a whole cake! I feel so lame when I run
so when I heard those things it made me feel like I looked like I could
actually run.
While on my run I put my camp
uniform and undies in the wash (since I am seriously not washing anything I actually
care about) and then came back to find out the washer filled but didn’t run and
there were no other open washers. Finally, I had to move all my soaking clothes
to a different washer. The laundry take forever here so needless to say it’s
going to be a long night.
Also what is really said is I have
already started packing my duffel bag to come home but I haven’t packed for my
weekend back to Munich as well as Dachau and the castle! I can’t wait to come
home!!! 16 days!
