So I am going to have to have the
sign that was on my door translated because I swear they treated me like I had
a deadly virus that was unknown to the world yet! Every that came in came in
with caution and wearing gloves, masks, and smocks to protect themselves. They
hooked up a second IV but something weird was going on because it really hurt
my arm and I was bleeding and the water was leaking out. They ended up just
taking it out. Breakfast was… well once again bread and butter, although I had
a little bit of peach jam too. And of all things to give to someone having
stomach and digestive issues… they gave me coffee. Also word spread like wild
fire that I didn’t not want to take my sweet time in the hospital like most
Germans do because every time a nurse or doctor came in they started a
conversation with me saying “You want to go home huh?” it’s like yes I want to
go home I can’t understand a word you say, you do not tell me a single thing
about my tests I had done, and I’ve had to be in a weird foreign hospital by
myself all night when I should be in Austria having fun! When a doctor finally
came in to see me he said they couldn’t see anything on any of the tests they
did so they wanted to keep me a few more days. I said are you serious? I think
the IVs helped because I have been able to keep food down and my stomach doesn’t
even hurt anymore, can I please go home. Long story short finally at 11 am (a
full 24 hours later) I signed myself out of the hospital.
Abby and Kassee (the project
director) came in and saved me and hung out with me since 9 am (it was nice the
PD got to see I wasn’t crazy and making things up about how they don’t actually
check on me or tell me anything) and brought me home. I didn’t get to go to
Austria but I still had an extremely fun day. We started by grabbing some lunch
downtown and going shopping. I finally got to eat chicken! And it was really
good! I also picked up an amazing looking pastry for breakfast tomorrow. I want
to start trying all the different cakes, pastries, and desserts here but I just
haven’t had time (they all look fantastic). We then went to a spa in Bad Kissingen
that was only 13 Euro for 3 hours. It was a bunch of different pools and hot
tubs to go in as well as a sauna, hot room, and some weird room with a tree
that is supposedly good for your lungs. It was very relaxing and a great way to
really make me feel better. My favorite
was the reclined chairs in the pool that had the bubbles come up from
underneath. The pool was a nice luke warm and in was an indoor/outdoor so you
could go throughout the spa. Finally we went to the Mexican restaurant downtown
for dinner and I had some interesting burritos. They weren’t even wrapped like
normal and they were even toasted. All in all pretty good. I also went to the
store and got 6 2L water bottles to help keep me hydrated. Tonight Abby and I are
going to get sundaes (not just the 80 cent scoop yay) and have a nice night in.
Tomorrow will be sleeping in, laundry, working out, and planning out the rest
of the summer trips!

Last night I went to the
McDonalds across the street. I mean I wasn’t even actually supposed to go
there, I was just going back to the grocery store with Abby to take in our
water bottles and get money back for it (so that we could then buy more water
bottles haha). But the store was closed and we really wanted ice cream so we
went to the McDonalds that was just next door. Let me tell you that this
McDonalds blew my mind. Their McFlurries were made with Magnum ice cream and
chocolate (those amazingly good and fattening ice cream bars) and were divine.
Also they had an actually McCafe separate in the McDonalds. None of that shitty
McCafe coffee you can get for 99 cents, this had a whole menu of coffees and
frappes and it had all sorts of amazing looking desserts a pastries. It looked
upscale and good. They also had a way different menu. They had things called
American fries which were like seasoned steak fries and they had a burger
called the Texas Nacho beef burger that had tortilla chips and jalapenos in the
burger! They even had a veggie burger! I
just wanted to try it all! But instead I just got a Mandel McFlurry which I
think was coffee and chocolate. It was the best thing I have had thus far and
it totally helped me distress and feel better (thank the chocolate god!).
And then today I think I can
definitely say I have done something that not many people get to say they do in
Germany or with Camp Adventure… I spent the day in a German hospital. I have
been getting sick when I eat so I asked my POC if there’s somewhere I can get
medicine better than Pepto bismal to help me adjust to the very different diet
I have here… and well long story short I ended up in the emergency room in the
German hospital. And when you do that it is an automatic over night stay. They
took my blood twice, gave me multiple ultra sounds, and checked all my vitals
and left me with a German TV and an IV to be bored while still in my camp
uniform. I don’t know anything, I am not allowed to leave, and now I don’t even
get to travel this weekend. And I got bread and butter for lunch/dinner. But
thankfully Abby and Erik got me a really healthy lunch to get me back on my
American diet to help my system settle down: Pringles, a Magnum bar, and gummy
bears. Yeah I was not down to eat the sliced pork with green spots in it that
they gave me…. so I ate the bread and butter they gave me and then all the junk
food that Abby and Erik found. The one English Channel is CNN so I get to learn
all the British news. I’ve seen a bunch of American shows but of course they
were dubbed in German. The only thing I got to watch was Viva’s top 100
countdown (like MTV) and almost every song was American so that was cool to
catch up on music videos.
All the girls came to visit me
and it was really nice to have them around for a while. My POC also brought me
an iPad for the night that has 3g so that I could get internet since I would
have to pay for wifi on my laptop. But sadly no one could stay the night with
me so I had only an iPad and a can of Sour cream and Onion Pringles to get me
through the night. Luckily the iPad had Horton Hears a Who on it so I quickly
fell asleep to that.
Hmmmmmm can't help wonder about the diet....
